What we can
learn from the movie "Anger Management"?
Many people
have seen the movie "Anger Management" where the main character has anger management problems. But even though
it's a fun
comedy, there's something we can learn from it.
I have seen the movie several times with lots of people, and the most common comment when Sandler
has a typical angry person reaction is: 'Oh, just like ….!' (Fill in the blanks with your favorite angry
person).
So, everybody
knows an angry person or is one themselves: recent research shows that one out of five people in the U.S. has an
angry management issue, and most of the times, they should seek professional advice. Read on to learn more about
angry people.
In the movie "Anger Management", Adam Sandler is
forced to go to an anger management course coached by Jack Nicholson.
Though it
doesn't resemble a normal anger management course, it gives you a clear idea that it is a very harmful problem,
for the angry person and their family and friends.
Some of
the symptoms the main character played by Adam Sandler had where:
· Difficulty expressing his inner feelings towards people he cared about
(his girlfriend for instance).
· He usually transposes his anger at one situation to people who were not
the cause for his anger in the first place.
· Anger bursts when he feels ignored or neglected, when embarrassed, or
when people annoys him (and his therapist is quite annoying, but that's part of the comedy).
· He seems to have a problem when he has to stand up for himself at work,
and ends up complaining about his boss all day.
· He's bitter and seems to be afraid to open up to people he loves as well
as to strangers.
· His self-esteem seems to be low, although he knows he's an intelligent
person, capable of loving his girlfriend, but at the same time, afraid of commitment.
These are just
a comprehensive list of the symptoms an angry person can have.
There are many
more that weren't present in the movie, such as domestic violence, aggression, crime, addictive behaviors and
damaged relationships.
If an abnormal
anger behavior is not treated soon enough, the consequences may be terrible.
Anger is part
of our human nature, a normal emotion. And it's good to acknowledge that you feel it.
But if you see
yourself in this short description of an angry person, then you should definitely seek professional advice, go
to your doctor and she will provide you with information on anger management courses, therapists or techniques
to help you cope with anger, stress and anxiety.
Your doctor
will also help you if are already suffering from an ulcer or any other digestive problem derived from your
anger.
A comprehensive
anger management course will teach you how to apply relaxing techniques, mainly deep breathing and
visualization, identify symptoms before you have an anger burst, deal with the emotions related to your anger,
understand how your anger is affecting other people, among other key aspects.
